HAPPY. BIRTHDAAAY.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
Haven't been drawing much outside of work lately, so thought I'd post THIS LITTLE GEM (stolen from Shane Glines' Cartoon Retro).
So yeah, no big surprises here, I guess.
Been watching a lot of Mad Men lately, thanks to my brother! The whole look of the show is so stylized in itself, have been itching to draw some of the characters for a while now. Figured I'd start with Joan, just cause she's mad curvy and more interesting to draw than everyone else.
Still need to catch up on Season 3 before the 25th, WISH ME LUCK, Y'ALL.
After struggling with Vimeo for the past couple weeks I FINALLY have my shorts up online.

So the Senior Show was a big success. I still can't get over the positive reactions I got from the audience. Was honestly not expecting that at all, considering every time I'd show my progress for group crit no one would laugh. It really meant a lot to hear that my stuff was so well received, definitely a huge confidence booster.
Thank you to everyone who went last night, can't thank friends and family enough for all of their support. The whole day was just so surreal, thanks again for all the kind words :)
So the annual Senior Animation Show is just about 2 weeks away. TERRIFYING.
It'll be at the Brattle Theatre on May 13th from 3-5 pm, AND IT'S FREE, SO IF YOU HAVE THE MEANS, YOU SHOULD COME.
There's an after party following the screening at 601 Newbury in the Animation Basement starting around 7. THERE WILL BE BOOZE. And food..most likely just cheese. And apparently the after party is ~Jail House~ themed, so here's a caricature of myself I did for a prison line-up poster.
Haven't really drawn anything non-school/internship related in a while, so here's something quick I did today after seeing Kick-Ass. It wasn't cinematic gold or anything, but it was still entertaining. If anything, go see it for Hit Girl.
BAD. ASS.
The other one kind of gives away the ending, don't want to post any ~spoilers~.
But yeah, this break has not been as productive as I'd hoped. I don't know if it's because I'm out of the city or what, but I've definitely lost some steam on this thing. I was doing good schedule-wise, but now I'm a bit behind again. I know I would've gotten more done if I'd just stayed in Cambridge, but whatevs, I'm grateful to have had some down time.
After this scene, I think there are 4 left with very minimal animation. I created a bunch of textures for backgrounds today, will scan them tomorrow.
UPDATE!
Just about half-way done with scene 1, the last scene with a fair amount of animation. We're presenting our stuff for the first time this semester on Wednesday, so ideally all scenes will be animated by then. After that, I'll just focus on making/plugging in backgrounds, then sound. Theoretically this project will be 100% complete by March 16th, and if it gets done sooner, even better.
Just a few color comps for the characters. The guy's supposed to be a loser, the girls are meant to be way out of his league, so I'm using the cool vs. warm colors to try and sell this. I'M SO ORIGINAL, THIS HAS NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT.
Here's part of the first scene I'm working on. It's one of the longest, so hopefully the animation for this one will be out of the way relatively soon. Just an example of what a "cleaned up" character will look like:
Model sheet for ~Maya II~. I still might change it before class, I don't know.
And first day of Senior Animation Projects today D: Even though I'm so close to being done with the animation from my last project (never quite got around to finishing it over break :\), I really want to try and get a jump start on my next short. I feel like I've learned so much at my internship for only being there a pretty short amount of time, and I'm really pumped to apply what I've learned to my own work. Hopefully I'm not digging a hole for myself by doing this, but I think I'll be okay.
