movin' pictures

Uhh...Happy New Year?! Where the eff did 2011 go, been forever and a day since my last post.

Saw something neat over the weekend, some promos for the upcoming WordGirl movie, The Rise of Miss Power! This will be the first time I'll have seen any of my work on television, so I'm pretty excited. A couple really quick shots from some of my scenes are in the video below, one at 0:07-0:08 and the other from 0:11-0:13 (I'm also creepin' in the crowd shot around 0:05, CAN YOU FIND ME).

The movie premieres February 20th on PBS (not sure if that's 5 pm eastern or central in the promo..will update again before it airs!). Please check it out if you have the chance!

ETA: The movie premieres at 4:30 pm ET on your local PBS station!

...NATALIE!

This was a lil' something I started back in August. Was an exercise I meant to finish off and on within a few days, but put it on the back burner fo' a while and finally finished it up tonight.

Took the sound clip from Episode #92 of Comedy Bang Bang, featuring the lovely Jessica St. Clair as Marissa Wompler.

Surfer

JUST DOODLIN'. Going to leave this as is, not really feeling it anymore (think the pose is pretty weak).

GOODBYE BEACH WEATHER.

Rocky M. Walsh

In honor of my cat Rocky, who passed away on September 12, 2011. Rocky was the first cat our family ever had, and I can easily say he was the best cat around. I had always wanted a cat when I was younger, but due to my mom's allergies, I settled for 'Kitty Kitty Kittens' and various other stuffed animals. After my parents divorced, my mom played with idea of adopting a kitten, and thus in the spring of 1997, Rocky became a member of our family. He was as great a support system and source of unconditional love then as he was through the rest of his days. He was a part of our lives for close to 15 years, and I'm extremely grateful for every one of them. He brought so much happiness and joy into our family, and I will miss him dearly. No other pet will compare, he was the sweetest and most loving companion we could've ever asked for.

I miss you, Rock.
R.I.P.

Amy, Amy, Amy

Haven't had much time for non-work related drawing, but wanted to do something to commemorate one of my favorite musicians. Tried an Augenblick-ish sort of style (just referenced Callie's 3/4 view), figured it suited her better than my usual stuff.

Found a drawing of Amy on my laptop from '09 (also found a small project from '07 that revolved around her, but that one's way too crappy to share), so figured I'd post it for old time's sake.

GON' MISS YOU, GURL.

burn notice

Might be going to the beach this weekend, so hopefully this won't be me...?!!

Started out as this guy down here, but want to start practicing putting characters in environments instead of just floating in a blank space. The background is really simple and lame, but it's a start.

freelance-aversary..?

Feel like this is gonna be a busy weekend, so just wanted to make a post to commemorate a year of successful(?!) freelancing!

I started my first ever paid/non-internship position at Soup2Nuts on June 18, 2010, so hooray for animation gigs putting a roof over my head and plenty of take-out in my stomach for the past year. Who knows how much longer I'll last around here, but it's been a great experience so far. Definitely feel more confident in my animation skills than I did this time last year, so here's to getting even better in the future!

Also, I don't think I've ever mentioned it specifically here, but I've been animating on PBS's Word Girl since February. It's very cute and well written, and has a great cast of comedians (including Jeffrey Tambor, PATTON OSWALT, Chris Parnell, Maria Bamford, ETC.). The theme song's pretty catchy, too :)

CHECK IT OUT!

"why is there a chicken on your head?"

That was the first thing my mom asked me while she was recovering in the SICU. Only later did she reveal it was a something she'd planned on asking others rather than actually having visions of chickens, but thought it'd make a cute image.

cat burglars

MAKING UP FOR LOST TIME AND POSTING AGAIN TODAY.

So yeah, this was my afternoon. Perhaps inspired by catching the tail end of Ocean's 11 on television the other night, in addition to Cats 101.

THE WORLD MAY NEVER KNOW.

UPDATES

I SUCK AT LIFE, New Year's resolution has long flown out the window at this point.

Haven't had much drive to draw lately (MY FIFTH OR SO QUARTER-LIFE CRISIS?! IDK ANYMORE), but here's part of a piece I started before the weekend. The turd may or may not make it into the final version, and color scheme is also subject to change.

Some other things I've worked on have been posted up on Fizzy's Lunch Lab site in the past month, as well, so here we go:

First up is the introduction to the game Hectic Harvest:

Also from Hectic Harvest is the Store Clerk's animation:

And finally, the Lunch Lab Live with Bella Basil short:

This one was animated during my eerily long "ease in and out of everything" period, something which I think I'm getting better with, BUT WHO KNOWS.

ALSO, one of my pieces will be up for sale/your viewing pleasure at the Yes Oui Si gallery in Boston, MA from April 28th - May 1st.

If you got nothing going on, come out and support your local artists! Not even making any sort of profit (piece will be selling less than what the entry fee cost), but wanted to participate. Just found out it's being sponsored by PBR, so should be interesting..?! At the very least, come to look at some fucking hipsters.
